Time to make a record…
Hello all.
It’s been a while, but I am delighted to say that I’m finally getting my sh*t together to record an EP!
I’ll be in the studio just before Christmas (with Alison on BVs, Les on Dobro, Graeme on bass and Louis on percussion), and hope to be in a position to release Johnny Blue’s Well , towards the end of February, or in March 2024. Five songs about particular places, journeys and characters – and about the relationships between them…
Ishihara: The Ishihara test is the test for red-green colour blindness. Ishihara is a Japanese surname; it translates as ‘stone meadow’. The song’s protagonist bemoans his inability to read other people’s emotions.
Wild Angelica: Wild Angelica is a plant that proliferates on South Uist. It has healing properties. This is the story of a journey to that island, through which an old man and his two sons find unexpected hope and healing.
The Swell and the Sway: A retired ferryman muses on his new life on land, and on his lost love (the boat on which he sailed for 40 years).
Joensuu: A stranger’s morning walk through a Finnish town (the name of which translates as ‘River’s Mouth’) provokes an appreciation of the people who have lived there, but also a longing for home.
Johnny Blue’s Well: Two boys run away from home, but soon think better of it…
I would love (and, honestly, I’ll really need) your support in getting this project over the line… For now, all that I ask is that you sign up to my mailing list, so that I can keep you posted about it… You can sign up here:
